After high school I am attending Uconn's school of business and majoring in business management. Afterwards, I hope to attend law school and become a family law lawyer. I had the opportunity to speak to Misty Simmons who is a family lawyer in Hartford Connecticut. I started off the interview with questions about why she wanted to go into family law and her journey through college. Since law school doesn't require any prerequisites, I asked about her major in college. She majored in psychology and said it benefited her because it gave her insight on human behaviors. She said it allowed for her to be more understanding of the things her clients have been going through. I asked all sorts of questions about her experience in law school, how bad is the workload, the finals, taking the Lsats, passing the bar. She answered every question truthfully and didn't sugar coat it which I really appreciated. She told me the workload is intense and does get overwhelming but keeping a good work ethic can combat the stresses of it. We also talked about her experience finding a job after law school, since she worked in a law office all throughout law school the firm she worked at offered her a job. This made me start looking at internships at law firms over the summer. The entire experience of talking with Misty was really eye opening. Some major takeaways I had are the internships. Taking as many psychology courses in college as I can, not procrastinating during school, and valuing the relationships I make with my clients.
