There are many factors that impact a child's performance in school. One factor is their families income. A low income can prohibit a child from buying the proper school supplies that they need for their upcoming school year. When looking at Dwight Bellizzi, an elementary school in Hartford, Connecticut 89.4 percent of students qualified for free or reduced lunch in 2019 while Highcrest, an elementary school in Wethersfield only had 17.1 percent of students who qualified for free or reduced lunch in 2019 (Edsight, 2019). For my capstone project I wanted to help support the 89.4 percent of students from Bellizzi with school supplies by hosting a school supply drive at Highcrest Elementary. Having these extra school supplies for students will provide a less stressful environment for students. Instead of the students worrying about their need for school supplies they will instead be more focused on their education and performance in school.
